Origin Stories
At that time, Thullanandā bhikkhunī again just asked king Pasenadi for the light robe he wore. And Kālī, the Licchavi bhikkhunī, asked for a light robe worth 500 coins from the Licchavis. The officials and the people criticized them … “I now lay down a precept for the bhikkhunīs, as explained above. From now on, this precept should be recited thus:
Final Ruling
‘If a bhikkhunī asks for a light robe, she should take a cheap one worth two and a half large coins. If she accepts a more expensive robe, it’s a nissaggiya pācittiya.’”
Explanations
“A light robe” means summer clothes.
For a sikkhamānā and a sāmaṇerī, it’s a dukkaṭa.
