Origin Story

At that time, Khemā bhikkhunī didn’t have a place to stay. She went to a householder and said: “I don’t have a place to stay. Build a monastery for me.” The householder answered as before, and gave items. Having obtained the items, she thought: “My robes are rough, worn out, and breaking up. I’ll use (these items) to make some. There are plenty of places to stay.” Then she used them to make robes. Having made robes, she went and told the householder … “I now lay down a precept for the bhikkhunīs, as explained above. From now on, this precept should be recited thus:

Final Ruling

‘If a bhikkhunī asks for something for herself from a householder, and then uses it herself for another purpose, it’s a nissaggiya pācittiya.’”
