Origin Story

At that time, the bhikkhunīs gave the full ordination to nuns who had trained in the precepts for two years but hadn’t kept the precepts. They were ignorant and without knowledge, and weren’t able to train in the precepts. The senior bhikkhunīs criticized them in all kinds of ways, … “I now lay down a precept for the bhikkhunīs, as explained above. From now on, this precept should be recited thus:

Final Ruling

‘If a bhikkhunī gives the full ordination to a nun who has trained in the precepts for two years but who hasn’t kept the precepts, it’s a pācittiya.’”
