Origin Story
At that time, the bhikkhunīs gave the full ordination to women who had recently given birth. They walked on almsround holding the bowl in one hand, and embracing the baby with the other. When the lay people saw it, they laughed at them and said: “Quickly give food for two people.” The lay people were upset and criticized it. The senior bhikkhunīs criticized them in all kinds of ways, … “I now lay down a precept for the bhikkhunīs, as explained above. From now on, this precept should be recited thus:
Final Ruling
‘If a bhikkhunī gives the full ordination to a woman who has recently given birth, it’s a pācittiya.’”
