The 82nd training precept: Standing alone with a bhikkhu in a secluded place.
Origin Story
Location as before. Then Guttā bhikkhunī stood in a secluded place with Udāyī. When the brahmin householders and men had seen them, they got upset and said to each other: “This bhikkhunī hasn’t gone forth for extinguishment. She even stands in a secluded place with a bhikkhu. They must be on a date.” Those without faith slandered her in all kinds of ways. The bhikkhunīs told the bhikkhus, and the bhikkhus told the Buddha. The Buddha asked and criticized, as explained in detail above, down to: “I’ll lay down another training precept. You should recite it like this:
Final Ruling
‘If a bhikkhunī stands alone with a bhikkhu in a secluded place, it’s a pācittiya.’”
Explanations
“A bhikkhunī” means Guttā bhikkhunī, or any other bhikkhunī.
“A bhikkhu” means Udāyī bhikkhu.
“Standing in a secluded place”: There are five kinds of seclusions as explained above.
