Bhikkhunī Vibhaṅga
Confession 133
The 133rd training precept: Being stingy with families.
Origin Story
Location as before. Then bhikkhunīs entered a vastly wealthy and faithful house on almsround, and everyone gave pure and excellent food and drinks. When they had received food, they quickly returned to their original monastery. Thullā bhikkhunī saw them and asked: “In whose house did you receive this refined food?” The bhikkhunīs fully described the place where they obtained it. Thullā bhikkhunī was upset and criticized them: “You should go to such-and-such a home, you shouldn’t go to such-and-such a building, you shouldn’t enter such-and-such a house.” The bhikkhunīs said: “Noble one, why are you stingy with these many houses?” She replied: “Where’s the fault is in this? I’m their teacher. Don’t wear them out and make them lose respect and faith.” The bhikkhunīs told the bhikkhus, and the bhikkhus told the Buddha. The Buddha asked and criticized, as explained in detail, down to: “I’ll lay down another training precept. You should recite it like this:
